Wideband active small loop antenna edit / delete

Lower a loop's Q by adding resistance, then build in an amplifier: wideband magnetic-field antenna. Worth building to compare to my PA0RDT electric-field probe.

Lots of random electronics: radio, including an unusual loop antenna; simple computer designs; why ECL should have beaten TTL; and various other bits.

Loop Antenna. edit / delete

Very simple active loop amplifier design (for which I've got all the bits already). Probably worth trying for my balcony.

Loop and active antennas. Decent papers, including descriptions of how to build the complicated capacitive match to a loop. (He seems awfully fond of winding inductors, though.)

Now, that's what I call a loop.

Low Freq. Antennas edit / delete

The active loop design looks interesting -- use a high-bandwidth differential amp rather than a matching transformer, with a varicap to allow remote tuning. (Wonder how small a loop you can get away with?)

The G4ILO Wonder Loop edit / delete

He comments that he's only been able to measure the performance on 20m/30m/40m. Having built his design, it does indeed only tune from about 6MHz-18MHz. (The CARC design with a 1m loop and a gamma match is more like 9MHz-30MHz with a 30-275pf capacitor, so this one wins on being able to do 40m but loses 15/12/10.)
